Hardwood refinishing & painting in Manchester, NH

Manchester's North End, West Side, and South End are full of century-old homes with floors worth bringing back. That's our favorite kind of job.

The Queen City has the oldest housing stock in our service area and some of the best wood. Homes built around the mills from the 1890s through the 1930s often have maple or birch strip floors, and the big North End houses off Elm Street have wide oak and even fir that's been through a hundred years of finishes. Sanding one of those back to clean wood is as satisfying as this work gets.

We also do a lot of straightforward work in Manchester: luxury vinyl plank in multi-family units and basements, new hardwood in the post-war neighborhoods near Hanover Hill and the South End, epoxy on garage floors, and interior painting. Manchester is about 25 minutes from our shop in Hudson, so a crew can be there every morning for the length of a project.

What we do in Manchester

Homes here, and what they need.

Pre-1940 homes dominate the North End, West Side, and the streets around the Millyard: maple, birch, and oak strip floors, often with painted or carpeted stairs on top. The South End and the neighborhoods east of I-93 are more 1950s to 1970s ranches and capes with red oak. Multi-families are everywhere, which is why LVP is a common request here. Nearly all of it predates 1978, so we work lead-safe.

  • Hardwood refinishing

Bringing back maple and birch strip floors in North End and West Side homes, stairs included.

  • Flooring installation

Luxury vinyl plank in multi-family units and basements; hardwood where the original can't be saved.

  • Interior painting

Repainting high-ceilinged older rooms and trim, with lead-safe practices.

  • Epoxy floors

Epoxy coatings on garage and basement slabs.

Questions

Manchester questions.

Does LCH work in Manchester, NH?

Yes. Manchester is about 25 minutes from our shop in Hudson and we work there regularly, including the North End, West Side, South End, and the neighborhoods around the Millyard.

Can old maple or birch floors in a Manchester home be refinished?

Yes. Maple and birch are harder than oak and sand beautifully, though they take stain less evenly, so many homeowners choose a natural finish that shows off the light color. We put samples on your floor so you can decide.

Can you refinish a floor in one unit of a multi-family?

Yes. We do single units, common hallways, and whole buildings. Water-based finishes dry faster and have less odor, which helps when other people are living in the building.

Can you match new wood to the old floors in my Manchester house?

In most cases. We can weave new boards into damaged areas or lace new flooring into an addition, then sand and finish everything together so it blends. Species like maple and old-growth fir are harder to match perfectly than oak, and we'll tell you up front what to expect.
