Hardwood floors & painting in Chelmsford, MA
Chelmsford's capes, ranches, and 1980s colonials are full of oak strip and parquet that cleans up beautifully. That's the work we drive down Route 3 for.
Chelmsford is the Massachusetts town we hear from most, and the housing explains why. The Center, the Westlands, South Row, and North Chelmsford filled in between the 1950s and the 1980s with capes, ranches, split-levels, and colonials, almost all of them built over oak strip flooring. A lot of that oak has spent decades under carpet, which means it's in good shape and only needs a sand and a fresh finish to look new.
We also see more parquet in Chelmsford than anywhere else we work, in 1960s ranches and the family rooms of 1970s splits. Parquet can be refinished, it just needs a careful hand on the sander because the grain runs in every direction. Newer colonials off Route 110 and Graniteville Road are more likely to want a first refinish, luxury vinyl plank in a finished basement, or epoxy on a two-car garage. Chelmsford is about 25 minutes from our shop in Salem, NH, so the crew is there first thing each morning of a project.

What we do in Chelmsford
Homes here, and what they need.
Mostly 1950s to 1980s capes, ranches, splits, and colonials around Chelmsford Center, the Westlands, South Row, and North Chelmsford, with newer colonials and townhouses along Route 110 and near the Route 3 interchanges. Red oak strip is the norm, with parquet in some mid-century ranches and splits. Finished basements and attached two-car garages are common.
- Hardwood refinishing
Oak strip that's been under carpet since the 1970s, and parquet in mid-century ranches that nobody else wants to touch.
- Flooring installation
New hardwood to match existing oak when a kitchen opens into a dining room, and LVP in finished basements.
- Epoxy floors
Epoxy on two-car garage floors, usually with a flake finish.
- Interior painting
Whole-first-floor repaints after the floors are done, plus trim and doors.
Reviews
What customers say.
“I was immediately impressed after submitting the inquiry online to receive a call the same day from Jacob. The communication was fantastic throughout the project! … Our refinished floors look brand new and they left the space so clean.”
“Five stars is not enough. LCH exceeded our expectations. We had a new Vinyl Plank flooring installed in our master bedroom, along with painting the room. Our bedroom looks awesome, thanks to Calvin and his crew for going above and beyond any questions or issues that we had. Highly recommend LCH, won't hesitate to hire them again.”
“I am extremely satisfied with the work done by this company refinishing my hardwood floors. From my first contact they were there in a couple days to give me a clear and concise quote … They were always prompt, polite and professional and were very good about cleaning up after themselves and caring for my home.”
Questions
Chelmsford questions.
Does LCH Painting & Flooring work in Chelmsford, MA?
Yes. Chelmsford is about 25 minutes from our shop in Salem, NH, and we're there regularly for refinishing, hardwood and LVP installation, epoxy garage floors, and interior painting. There's no travel charge for Massachusetts jobs.
Can parquet floors be refinished?
Yes, as long as the wear layer is thick enough, which it is on most of the solid parquet laid in Chelmsford homes in the 1960s and 1970s. It takes a slower, more careful sanding pass than strip flooring because the grain changes direction with every block, but the result is a floor that looks brand new. If a few blocks are loose or missing, we re-glue or replace them before sanding.
I pulled up the carpet and found hardwood. Is it worth saving?
Almost always. Carpet protects oak from sun and wear, so the floor underneath is usually in better shape than floors that were never covered. Staple holes, tack strips, and some water staining near doors are normal and come out with the sanding. We'll look at it in person and tell you if anything needs replacing first.
How do you handle North Chelmsford and the Westlands versus the Center?
The same way. Every Chelmsford estimate is done in person at your house, with a written proposal that lists the rooms, the finish, and the timeline before any work starts.
