Hardwood floors & painting in Lowell, MA

Lowell has some of the oldest and best hardwood we work on. Belvidere Victorians, Highlands two-families, and mill-era houses with floors that deserve a proper refinish.

Lowell is a different kind of job than the suburbs around it. In Belvidere, the Highlands, Centralville, and Back Central, the houses date from the 1880s through the 1920s, and the floors are old-growth oak, maple, and sometimes heart pine that has outlasted a century of finishes, paint drips, and carpet. A proper refinish on those floors is some of the most satisfying work we do, and it's also where experience matters most: old boards can be thinner than they look, so we check the wear layer before anyone turns on a sander.

Lowell is also where lead-safe practices matter most. Nearly every home we work in there was built before 1978, so sanding and painting are done under EPA RRP lead-safe rules, with the containment and cleanup that go with them. Out in Pawtucketville and along the Dracut line the housing is newer, 1950s to 1970s capes and ranches, which is more like our New Hampshire work. Lowell is about 25 minutes from our shop in Salem, NH.

Questions

Lowell questions.

Does LCH Painting & Flooring work in Lowell, MA?

Yes. Lowell is about 25 minutes from our shop in Salem, NH, and we refinish and install hardwood, install luxury vinyl plank, coat floors with epoxy, and paint interiors throughout the city. Massachusetts jobs carry no travel charge.

Can 100-year-old hardwood floors still be refinished?

Usually, yes. Old-growth oak and maple were laid thick, and even after several refinishes most Lowell floors have wear layer left. We measure at a heating register or a closet before quoting. If a floor is too thin in places, we'll tell you, and the options are a screen-and-recoat, which removes no wood, or replacing the worst boards before sanding.

My house was built before 1978. What does lead-safe work mean?

We're an EPA RRP lead-safe certified firm. In pre-1978 homes we test, contain the work area, keep dust from spreading, and clean up to the EPA standard before we leave. It adds a little time to the job and it's not optional for us.

Do you work in two-family and three-family homes?

Yes. We refinish and install floors unit by unit, and we schedule around the people living there so each unit is out of commission for the shortest possible time.
